Recall Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf Campaign Is Stupid - Video
Recall Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf Campaign Is Stupid The drive to recall Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, who just took office to start the year 2015 after winning the 2014 Oakland Mayor's Race, is just plain stupid. Libby may have made some mistakes, but the simple fact is, Mayor Schaaf, born in Oakland, has done a great job of promoting the Oakland brand, or “Made in Oakland.” Moreover, she took office right before the already growing spectre of gentrification became the monster that it is today. While Oakland has, and for the first time in its post war history, overcome institutional investor racism. The problem is that former Oakland Mayor and now California Governor Jerry Brown, a so-called progressive, took away the very tool that fueled the construction of affordable housing in our city and in the state: Redevelopment Agencies. So now, without the large pool of housing money Redevelopment gave Oakland, Libby took the Office of Mayor without any really effective tool to counter the pressure to build new luxury housing and convert existing housing into higher-value dwellings. This is an unprecedented point in Oakland's history – it calls for all of us to pull together and not to be apart. We can fix this, just as we can repair the police department. Which brings me to this: if activists want to recall Mayor Schaaf for the problems that existed in the Oakland Police Department before she took office, why didn't that same group sign on to the recall of Oakland Mayor Jean Quan? Moreover, did that group of good folks (this is not personal) forget that Mayor Quan once picked an officer to be Oakland Police Chief, and he held his job for just 48-hours? Because, for the most part, she's white and female, Libby doesn't get any credit for devoting much of her State of The City Address to a clear and in-your-face support of #BlackLivesMatter. Libby is also the first Oakland Mayor, ever, to specifically point out how some institutions are racist, and she did so in a public speech I recorded on video. I've been in Oakland since 1974, and NO MAYOR has EVER done that – and we have had some great African American mayors. And, as Libby knows, it's not what you've done for someone, or for African Americans, but who do you call your friends? Libby has many people who are black and 'of color' who are her friends and stand with her, and defend her. I'm one of them. So, in closing, rather than be so quick to give Libby your disrespect, please stop and jump in and give her your respect - help her. Help Oakland. This is especially true for those who ran for Mayor of Oakland, and yet now act as if they never did. My friend Ken Houston comes to mind. And I point out Ken because he has the stuff to be a great civic leader, but he prefers to get on social media and scream rather than toss his hat in the ring or help the Mayor in some way. I am getting after Ken because I know he can make a difference, and he has before. Mr. Houston ran for Mayor, and I say this again, if he took his own campaign and himself seriously, he could have won or at least placed within the top five campaigners. So, again, please stop the recall effort – it's just the wrong idea at the wrong time. We need to help the Mayor of Oakland. Period.

Donald Trump Picks Mike Pence As VP Running Mate - Clinton Must Pick Sanders
Donald Trump Picks Mike Pence As VP Running Mate - Clinton Must Pick Sanders - Video
Donald Trump picked Indiana Governor Mike Pence as his Vice Presidential running mate today. For all of his mistakes Trump got this one right. Pence is a true old style conservative who understands political deal making. He even gets along with President Obama. It's a pick that even got the praise of Obama's press secretary this week. It also means Hillary Clinton has to get her VP pick right. It means she has to get Bernie Sanders on board as her VP pick. That would clearly unify the Democratic Party. Stay tuned.

President Obama's Dallas Speech One Reason Why He Needs 3rd Term - Video
Once again President Obama was called upon to find the right words to heel America and he came through. We are used to this from him - so much so that we take it for granted. But the fact is we are having Obama leave office just at the time we need him the most. President Obama, without saying it, makes an incredible case for having a third term. He has become the healer in chief. Stay tuned.

Nick Saban Blasts Paul Finebaum, Defends Cam Robinson In #BlackLivesMatter Moment - Video
Alabama Crimson Tide Head Coach Nick Saban took time at SEC Media Days to defend his star Defensive Tackle Cam Robinson and blast ESPN Commentator Paul Finebaum. Finebaum tried to take Saban to task for not suspending Robinson and Hootie Jones for getting arrested for gun and drug possession charges. Saban rightly pointed out that the charges were dropped. He also said that he did not care what Finebaum or anyone else thought. What is missing here is that this was a good police interaction with young black men and law enforcement and in the same region where Philando Castile was killed for having a gun in his possession. Both Robinson and Castile told the police officers that they had guns. Cam Robinson didn't get shot; Castile did. Cam Robinson got the right treatment by a white police officer, but the media doesn't wan to tell that story. It's the media that is the problem not America.

Oakland City Pro Football Group, LLC Is Ronnie Lott; Alameda County In Coliseum City Land Sale Talks - Video
“Oakland City Pro Football Group, LLC” Is Ronnie Lott; Alameda County In Coliseum City Land Sale Talks Anyone who tells you “nothing's going on” with respect to negotiations related to what will be a new stadium for the Oakland Raiders is either lying to you or really knows nothing at all, but is just talking to look important and is an Oakland hater. Thanks to several friends I can say there was a little-seen document that appeared in the agenda for the Alameda County Board of Supervisors on July 6th, and County Administrator Susan Muranishi “approved and authorized” Aki Nakao and Pat O'Connell to negotiate a land purchase deal with an organization called “Oakland City Pro Football Group, LLC”. Then, on July 12th, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors were treated to an update on the progress of the talks in closed session. That part of the County's' agenda reads as follows: - Property: O.Co Stadium and Arena, Oakland (Assessor Parcel Nos. 041-3901- 009, 041-3901-008 and 042-4328-001 - Agency Negotiators: Aki Nakao and Pat O'Connell, Real Property Negotiators - Negotiating Parties: Oakland City Pro Football Group, LLC a California Limited Liability Company Under Negotiation: Price and Terms of Payment I don't yet know the details, but I do know this is coming to the Oakland City Council on Tuesday of next week. What we can infer from this information, however, is really quite a lot. First, the talks between who is The Ronnie Lott Group, but is now legally called Oakland City Pro Football Group, LLC, and the City of Oakland and Alameda County, and the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, became real weeks ago, as opposed to just heating up this week. Whenever a legal entity name is presented in a County Agenda, from experience, I can say the people involved have instructed the potential buyers to start setting up a corporate veil – in this case, an LLC. This is exactly the same preliminary process Floyd Kephart and New City Development LLC went through three years ago, but coming out with an Exclusive Negotiating Agreement. In this case, expect to see Oakland City Pro Football Group, LLC with a Memorandum of Understanding signed very soon. Second, Oakland Raiders Owner Mark Davis and Team President Mark Badain are keenly aware of what's happening in Oakland, even as Mr. Davis tells his media friends that Oakland's doing nothing, and the Mayor of Las Vegas believes him. Third, the County is getting to a place where it has some understanding of what the appraised land Coliseum City value is. Remember, the City of Oakland approved Keiser-Marston & Associates to start work on land appraisal for Coliseum City two weeks ago; Alameda County's actions over this month are in concert with the City of Oakland's. That, in itself, completely smashes Mark Davis's claims that Oakland has political problems – a fairy tale that the Sheldon Adelson-owned Las Vegas Review repeated last week, and just as it was mentioning that Ronnie Lott was “minority” for what seems to me to be an act of dog-whistle racism on the part of that publication. In other words, Lott's black, so he won't get it done. From what you and I have seen, you'd have to be mentally ill to think Lott's not going to make this work. That he will get something done and retain the Raiders in Oakland is about as certain as one of his big hits as an NFL safety. Stay tuned.

Stay tuned.
