NFL To Inspect Estadio Azteca Quake Damage Before Raiders vs Patriots Game Decision - Video
NFL To Inspect Estadio Azteca Quake Damage Before Raiders vs Patriots Game Decision The National Football League will inspect the Estadio Azteca Stadium, site of the New England Patriots versus Oakland Raiders game November 19th, before making a determination on the fate of the planned contest after the giant 7.4 Mexico City earthquake, today. NFL Public Relations Representative Brian McCarthy wrote this to me: "We need to first inspect the stadium. Not going off twitter reports. That one photo shows an extension joint; it's not a crack. Stadium had four of them." And for clarity, Mr. McCarthy means four extension (or "expansion") joints in the stadium. Even if the NFL elects to move the game, the question is will the venue that the game's moved to be, indeed, the Oakland Coliseum? Raiders fans expect this to be the case because the Silver and Black are the home team. But there are scheduling considerations to be made in this case. Looking at an internet search, the answer appears to be that the Coliseum is available. I also contacted Oakland Coliseum Joint Powers Authority Executive Director Scott McKibben. He said that if the NFL asked to use the Coliseum "we would do all we can to make it happen." Stay tuned.
