Nikki Bas vs Abel Guillen For Oakland City Council District Two Race 2018

Nikki Bas vs Abel Guillen For Oakland City Council District Two Race 2018 - Video

Nikki Bas vs Abel Guillen For Oakland City Council District Two Race 2018 Nikki Bas, or "Nikki Fortunato Bas", has as of November 28th 2017 ,according to City of Oakland Elections Documents, emerged as a true listed candidate for the Oakland City Council District Two Seat currently held by Abel Guillen. So far, she's file an FPPC 410, 501, and an OCRA 301 document. Ms. Bas comes to this political race with some good local credentials: she is the head of the Partnership for Working Families and has been for seven years, and prior to that she ran the East Bay Alliance for A Sustainable Economy for seven years, which means she can tap into campaign contributions from the Oakland and East Bay business community. On her Linkedin page, Ms. Bas says she is an "Advocate for economic & racial justice", so it's not too hard to figure out that her platform will be related to the affordable housing problem in Oakland. Indeed, her website at Nikki4Oakland.com, explains her intention, thusly: "I’ve lived in Oakland’s Crocker Highlands neighborhood for 20 years. I’ve raised my family here, and my daughter went to a great public elementary school just a few blocks away. When I take my morning run out my door and down to Lake Merritt, I see the beauty of Oakland and our rich cultural history, and I want everyone in Oakland to experience that. But there are two different Oaklands and they are pulling farther apart. I’m concerned that more of my neighbors will be impacted by the growing housing and homelessness crisis. Oakland is the 4th most expensive rental market in the country and our homeless population has jumped 25% to over 2,760 people. New development could displace many of our neighbors in Chinatown and Eastlake. I’m running to bring bold, innovative and proactive leadership to make Oakland work for all of us. I will tackle the critical issues facing our city and District 2 — housing, jobs, community safety — and bring accountability to City Hall. I will listen and bring people together, and I will have the courage to stand up and fight for real solutions — just as I have as a community organizer. I’m guided by values I learned from my parents, both immigrants from the Philippines. Witnessing their struggles taught me the importance of integrity, honesty and fairness. I would be proud to be Oakland's first Filipina Councilwoman and give voice to our diverse Asian Pacific Islander community at City Hall." On her Facebook page, she reports that "200 people have raised $30,000 in 3 weeks to support my bid for City Council". Ms. Bas was a speaker in favor of striking City of Oakland workers two weeks ago, and during the protests held in Downtown Oakland as was Councilmember Guillen. While others may emerge to join Ms. Bas in running against Guillen, she is not only the only challenger, but also the only person to run for any open Oakland City Council seat in the 2018 election - that includes that for Mayor Of Oakland, where the incumbent Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf stands without opposition at this time. Elaine Brown May Win $3.5 Million In Civil Assault Verdict vs Oakland, But Desley Brooks Was Right

Elaine Brown May Win $3.5 Million In Civil Assault Verdict vs Oakland, But Desley Brooks Was Right - Video

Elaine Brown May Win $3.5 Million In Civil Assault Verdict vs Oakland, But Desley Brooks Was Right The sad tale of former Oakland Black Panther Party member Elaine Brown and Oakland District Six City Councilmember Desley Brooks has its latest chapter in the news that Brown wins (at least for now, because I'd be surprised if the City didn't file an appeal). But the rumored fight that happened in the Everett and Jones bathroom on October 30th 2015 was an example of how the professional can quickly get personal in Oakland. Brown had an affordable housing development project that sought city funding, yet was stalled. It was because Brooks wanted to see a development pro-forms, which is a profit and loss forecast that is easy to do. Well, Brown reportedly did not like that. Whatever really happened it led to no criminal charges filed against Brooks. The case verdict is civil. What is clear is that taxpayer dollars are being used over an issue that could be solved if both Brooks and Brown just apologized and hugged it out. Indeed, someone needs to bring them together in a mature way, and because we have a city system that encourages immature behavior: you don't like someone, so there's all kinds of ways to make false claims and then get a group of people to back them. Take the Ethics Commission, as one example. Someone will want to pay staff time for this crap. Where's the mature leader who gets them both together and solves this? Hello? Mayor Schaaf? It's your time. PLEASE INVEST IN ZENNIE62MEDIA VIA PAYPALHERE: http://ift.tt/2u7j8De
